The MCITA Committee   

Click to enlargeThe MCITA is represented by 7 highly experienced motorcycle trainers, appointed to represent the collective views of members.  

The Committee meets 4 times per annum and in addition Committee members attend key meetings and events with Government agencies and other key stakeholders, concerning issues such as motorcycle safety and training standards.

The MCITA Committee members are:
  • Heather Boldy, Smart Rider Training (Chair)
  • Steve Manning, ART Motorcycle Training (Vice Chair)

  • Jim Harley, Harley's Rider Training
  • Maggie Hawkes, 1st Castle School of Motoring & Motorcycle Training
  • Graham Kershaw, Motag Motorcycle Training
Click to enlarge Heather Boldy grew up around motorcycling. Running businesses for nearly 25 years, Heather opened Smart Rider Training Limited in 1999. Wishing to explore and encompass all styles of riding and its assessment Heather holds a plethora of riding qualifications. 

 

Committed to raising the standard within the rider training arena, Heather embarked on a programme of professional development. After initial teacher training in 1989 Heather completing a BA in Education and Training at the University of Huddersfield and a Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring at The University of Hull. Education continues to be Heather's passion and she is currently studying for yet another Degree. 

 

Heather brings her extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of the training market for the benefit of MCITA members.

Click to enlarge Steve Manning is passionate about motorcycles and learned to ride in the early eighties. Steve worked as a motorcycle courier in Central London and then decided to become a motorcycle instructor after the introduction of Direct Access in 1997.
 
Steve has qualifications including RoSPA & BTEC Diplomas in motorcycle instruction and is currently a Shareholder/Operation Manager of Advanced Riding Techniques. Steve is pleased to bring his experience to the table and is always happy to discuss issues with other members.


Click to enlarge Maggie Hawkes passed her full bike test when she was 17. Since leaving school she has always worked within the motor trade, mainly running a busy service department. Maggie first qualified in 2002 as a motorcycle instructor at 1st Castle School of Motoring and Motorcycle Traaining, the company she now owns with her husband. The company is a well respected family run business that cares about road safety.

Maggie has long believe that the motorcycle training industry needs a united voice and thinks that the MCITA is the way to delivering this.


Click to enlarge Mike Loydall has been in and around the motorcycle industry for over 20 years, starting as a part time instructor and progressing to a regional manager of a number of motorcycle training schools. Mike has also worked as an ATB Owner and an Operations Manager for a national training school.

Mike now works as an independent motorcycle safety consultant and is involved in promoting motorcycle training and safety to the non riding public.



Click to enlarge William Rodwell started his motorcycle training career in 1994 as an instructor. Previous to this, William was a geography teacher. William started Lightning Motorcycle Training in 1999 and in 2000 added an additional branch.

William has had plenty of interaction with DSA personnel both at a local and national level. William uses his role on the MCITA Committee as a way of promoting the interests of the motorcycle training industry. He has a genuine desire for fairness across the industry and would like to see the DSA carry out their tasks in a 'fair and competent' way.

Click to enlarge Graham Kershaw is the Managing Director of Motag and has been involved in the motorcycle training industry for over 40 years. He has also had lots of involvement with schools projects including tutoring and moderating the Northern Ireland Road User Studies GCSE.

Graham has also been involved in the development in a number of courses including NVQ's at various levels. One of these courses is specifically about training the motorcycle trainer.



Click to enlarge Jim Harley passed my bike test in 1986 and completed his first Cbt instructors course with the Army in 1991 just after cbt was introduced. He then worked for CSM opening their centre in Glasgow in 1993 and taking on Edinburgh and running both until 1997.

Following that Jim opened Harleys Rider Training and has been running it ever since. Jim was largely involved in work on 2DLD on behalf of MRTA and has been on the committee at MCITA since its inception.
 
Jim feels that it is important to challenge the DSA for the good of all in the industry.
